It happened on the 1600 block of 33rd Street Southwest just before 7 p.m., said township police in a statement. Officers and firefighters with the Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company were called to the complex for an oven fire, the department said.
On arrival, first responders noted heavy smoke and fire coming from inside the building, the release says. Residents were evacuated as firefighters knocked down the flames in about 30 minutes, officials wrote.
In the end, emergency personnel kept the fire contained to a single apartment, authorities said. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist a displaced resident, they added.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by Salisbury Township Police Department's Fire Marshall Division, according to the release. The Eastern Salisbury Township Fire Department, Emmaus Fire Department, Cetronia Fire Department, Lower Macungie Fire Department, and Emmaus EMS also assisted at the scene.
